What We Do

What we do as Pacific Yearly Meeting is made possible through the faithful service, discernment, and community built by Friends across the Yearly Meeting. Throughout the year, Friends gather for worship, learning, business, service, fellowship, and shared witness — in large gatherings, small groups, committees, workshops, and ongoing programs.

PacYM’s shared life takes many forms. We gather for worship and Annual Session, learn together through workshops and conversations, stay connected through news and events, serve through committees and other opportunities, and carry concerns into shared witness and discernment.

There are many ways to take part. You might join worship, attend an event or workshop, come to Annual Session, serve on a committee, respond to a concern, or simply begin by getting to know Friends beyond your local community. Participation can grow gradually; there is no single path into the life of the Yearly Meeting.

We do this work because Quaker faith is lived in community. Worship, discernment, service, learning, and witness are not separate activities so much as different ways of listening together, supporting one another, and responding faithfully to our leadings and to the needs of our communities and the wider world.

The structures and programs of the Yearly Meeting exist to support that shared spiritual life — helping Friends stay connected, deepen their practice, care for one another, and act on the concerns that arise among us.

At-Large Membership

At Annual Session in 2026, Friends accepted in concept a proposal to experiment with At-Large Membership — a way for Friends to be recognized as recorded members through Pacific Yearly Meeting, rather than through a local Monthly Meeting.

For Friends, membership is more than having one’s name on a list. It reflects a growing commitment to Quaker faith and community, and a relationship in which the individual and the Meeting accept care and responsibility for one another. Faith & Practice offers a fuller exploration of the meaning of membership.

The trial is intended to explore how PacYM can support Friends whose spiritual lives are grounded in the wider Quaker community when membership in a local Monthly Meeting may not fit their circumstances or spiritual needs.

Be Part of the Life of PacYM

PacYM’s shared life grows through participation. Some Friends are involved regularly; others join when a particular event, concern, or opportunity speaks to them. Both matter.

Come to worship. Join a conversation. Attend an event. Help with a project. Serve when a concern or opportunity speaks to you. Get to know Friends beyond the circles you already know.

And if you carry a leading, concern, or idea that does not yet have a place, share it. Much of what happens in PacYM begins when a Friend asks a question, names a concern, or offers an idea — and when we pay attention to the voices in the room, as well as those that may be missing. Others join in listening, discerning, and discovering together what may grow from it.

There is no single way to belong or contribute. We hope you’ll find ways to connect, offer your gifts, and help shape the life of the Yearly Meeting.
