At the Palo Alto Friends Meetinghouse

Sponsored by the Pacific Yearly Meeting Youth Program
Coordinator & Supervisory Committee
with support from the College Park Quarterly Meeting Teen Committee

What does it take to be a “FAP” (Friendly Adult Presence) at a Quaker teen gathering? What other roles can adults play to support positive youth development in a Friendly way? How can adults support each other to be allies to young people?

This workshop will include resources on being an ally to youth; specific discussion about “FAP-ing”; worship-sharing about experiences, hopes, fears, and wonderings; games (because everyone needs to PLAY!); and activities to explore scenarios and develop skills. We will also have lunch and discussion with the teen Friends who are attending a retreat at Palo Alto Meeting that same weekend.

(Encourage a teen you know to come to that retreat! See here for more information about the teen retreat: https://www.pacificyearlymeeting.org/2012/pym-docs/ypc/teen-retreat-2012-03-23-paloalto/)

Who? All who are interested, curious, scared, or excited: You! Another date will be set for Southern California. Friends are welcome to attend both workshops.

Please register by March 19th by contacting Alyssa Nelson, Youth Program Coordinator pym [dot] youthcoordinator [at] gmail [dot] com.

(p.s. There are a couple FAP slots open for the teen retreat. Contact Alyssa if you’re interested in volunteering on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, 3/23-25. Bring your experiences to the workshop! Put your learning into action!)
